Luxury Diving Holidays by Private Yacht

Luxury Diving Holidays by Private Yacht Exploring the underwater world by yacht Make an Enquiry Home | Superyacht News | Luxury Diving Holidays by Private Yacht Why Diving Works Better on a Yacht A diving holiday by yacht unlocks access to remote, lightly visited dive sites, without being tied to fixed routes or schedules. With the freedom to move as conditions change, diving happens when and where the water is at its best, allowing the experience to unfold naturally and without pressure. Access to remote and lightly visited dive locations Flexibility to move with conditions, not fixed schedules A considered approach that minimises disturbance to marine environments Diving supported by certified crew or dedicated dive experts onboard Access shaped by conditions, not schedules Freedom to Dive Beyond the Crowds Experiencing luxury diving holidays by private yacht removes many of the constraints associated with shore-based or liveaboard diving. Rather than returning to the same sites or working around fixed schedules, diving by yacht allows each day to be shaped by conditions, visibility, and where the water is at its best. With the ability to reposition easily, yacht charter diving unlocks access to remote and lightly visited dive locations that are often beyond the reach of mass tourism. This flexibility allows diving to happen when it makes sense, creating a more considered and rewarding experience on the water. Start Planning From certified crew to trusted dive partners Expertise Onboard and Worldwide Diving by yacht is supported by experience at every level. Depending on the vessel and itinerary, this can include crew members who are certified divers, dedicated dive professionals onboard, or specialist partners engaged locally through established networks. For guests looking to learn, there is the opportunity to become certified at various levels, either onboard or through established operators ashore, making it possible to learn to dive on a yacht in a controlled and supportive environment. This approach suits both beginners and experienced divers, including families travelling together. The result is an approach to diving that feels seamless, well-managed, and tailored to the people onboard, rather than shaped by rigid structures or external schedules. “Going off the beaten track is what yachts are made for. The ultimate luxury is reaching places where it feels like you’re the only ones there.” – Alexis Vincent, The Dive Butler Where yacht charters unlock exceptional underwater worlds Destinations For Diving What defines a diving holiday by yacht isn’t a single destination, but the contrast of experiences it brings together. Within one journey, diving can move between reef systems, offshore islands, and dramatic drop-offs, each offering something entirely different below the surface. From the rare privilege of sharing the water with humpback whales in Tahiti, to descending onto historic wrecks along the coast of Croatia. This range allows each itinerary to unfold around moments rather than locations. Diving becomes part of a wider journey, shaped by season, place, and curiosity, with every destination adding its own perspective to the experience. View All Destinations Choosing the right platform for diving The Yachts For Diving Yachts used for diving holidays are selected for their ability to operate confidently across different regions and conditions, while maintaining comfort and continuity onboard. With the right setup and experienced crew, the yacht supports diving as part of the wider journey, allowing the experience to unfold smoothly without disrupting the rhythm of the charter. From TELEOST, equipped with a hyperbaric chamber and fully certified dive crew, to 4A, an SSI certified dive school, through to expedition yachts built for Polar cruising, each platform supports a different style of diving. View All Yachts From beginners to experienced divers Who Can Go Diving? Diving by yacht suits a wide range of guests, from confident divers looking to expand where and how they dive, to those newer to the water who want to build experience in a relaxed, well-supported environment. With the right guidance in place, younger guests can also be introduced to diving in an age-appropriate and considered way, often as part of a broader family charter. Because diving is approached as part of the wider journey, participation is flexible. Some guests may dive regularly, others occasionally, and some not at all, with each day shaped around what feels right for the group rather than a fixed programme. “The places matter, but it’s sharing the underwater world for the first time that people remember.” – Cam Bray, CEO at The Superyacht People Start Planning DIVING FAQs What To Know About Diving During A Yacht Charter Diving by yacht offers access and flexibility, but it also requires planning. These FAQs explain how diving fits into a private charter. Do I need to be a certified diver to dive during charter? No. Yacht charter diving can suit a range of experience levels. While certified divers can dive independently, newcomers can build confidence through PADI Discover Scuba Diving courses, which offer an introductory dive in controlled environments, under the supervision of a qualified instructor. Does the yacht provide dive gear? It depends on the yacht and how diving is arranged. Some yachts carry tanks, compressors, and shared equipment, while others rely on local dive operators through rendezvous diving. Dive gear should never be assumed and is always confirmed during charter planning. Can I take and complete a PADI dive course while on charter? Yes, in many cases you can, but it depends on the yacht, the destination, and how the charter is set up.What’s important to understand is that not all yachts are approved or equipped to run PADI courses independently, so they often rely on training through rendezvous diving. Course structure, minimum time requirements, and local regulations all need to be respected, so this is something that should be planned in advance rather than decided mid-charter. What is rendezvous diving on a yacht charter? Rendezvous diving is when a yacht coordinates with local dive operators rather than carrying full dive equipment onboard. Generally, the dive professionals with meet guests at the boat or on the water to

What Stood Out in 2025 More than 120 superyachts on display Over €4.3B in total yacht value Focus on long-range cruising and sustainable design Display of the latest water toys and cutting-edge innovations Increased interest in South Pacific and polar charter itineraries Adventure area featuring thrilling activities, luxury vehicles, and opportunities to explore beyond the yacht Innovation with Purpose A New Era of Superyacht Design This year felt more purposeful. The focus has moved from headline launches to meaningful innovation. More new builds are being designed for versatility, with ice-class or polar-rated capability that allows them to operate in both tropical and high-latitude regions. Builders are prioritising range, endurance and sustainability, reflecting a shift toward yachts that are made to explore diverse cruising grounds across the globe. Hybrid propulsion and next-generation fuel systems may have led the talking points, but the real shift was in mindset. Builders and owners are thinking beyond aesthetics, creating yachts that reflect individuality, family lifestyles, and a stronger connection to the destinations that inspire them. “The real innovation wasn’t just in tech – it was in mindset. Builders and owners are thinking long-term, designing yachts to reflect lifestyle, not just luxury.” – Cameron Bray, CEO at The Superyacht People Innovation Meets Experience Design That Reflects the Way We Live Innovation ran deeper than engineering this year. Heesen 55m “SOLEMATES”: Sleek, hybrid-ready and tailored for global itineraries. Admiral Yachts 72 by Giorgio Armani: A design-forward flagship blending high fashion and livability. Spaces that were once functional are now focal points. Bridges, galleys and lounges are designed with the same attention to detail as guest areas, creating a sense of openness and connection throughout. Discuss Opportunities The Conversations Defining the Year Ahead Key Trends Defining the Yachting Industry in 2025 Across every dock, the same ideas kept surfacing — how we travel, what drives innovation, and why connection matters more than ever. These were the recurring themes shaping conversations with captains, brokers, and builders alike: Experience-Led Design Yachts are being created around how people actually use them. Convertible spaces, family-friendly layouts, and flexible deck areas are replacing rigid, formal design. Practical Sustainability Talk around sustainability has matured. Hybrid propulsion, smarter energy systems, and reduced-waste operations are no longer ambitions — they’re becoming the standard. Exploration in Focus Explorer yachts dominated the narrative. Range, storage, and capability are top priorities, alongside a growing interest in destinations outside the Mediterranean, especially the South Pacific. Crew Continuity The best charter experiences still come down to people. Owners and clients are placing more value on long-term crew relationships that define the onboard atmosphere. Design with Depth Interiors are becoming more personal and tactile. Natural materials, softer palettes, and functional flow are redefining what modern luxury feels like. Spaces with Purpose Areas once reserved for crew are being reimagined as shared spaces. Bridges, galleys, and work zones are now designed with the same attention to detail as guest areas, reflecting a more open, experience-driven approach to life on board. The Human Element Why People Still Power This Industry For all the innovation and spectacle, Monaco always comes back to the people. The captains who share their hidden anchorages, the clients who dream bigger every year, and the colleagues you only see once in person but speak to all season long. It’s those conversations that happen between meetings, on tenders or over a quick coffee that shape what comes next. They’re the reminder that while yachts are the platform, people are the story. “Technology may push the boundaries, but trust and relationships still steer the journey.” – Halle Scott, The Superyacht Industry Professional Discuss Opportunities Stay Connected See The Full Story On Our Socials This is just a snapshot of Monaco. Somewhere Between Moorea and Nowhere: Cam Onboard BIG SKY

ARTICLE | AUGUST 2025 Somewhere Between Tahiti and Bora Bora: Cam Onboard BIG SKY A seven-day trip through French Polynesia’s cruising grounds with BIG SKY and The Superyacht People Make an Enquiry Home | Superyacht News | Somewhere Between Tahiti and Bora Bora: Cam Onboard BIG SKY Cam, our founder, recently embarked on a relaxed seven-day charter through French Polynesia aboard BIG SKY. Hosted by The Superyacht People, the trip was designed to showcase the yacht, the crew, and the destination in their element — no set itinerary, just good people and a loose plan to explore Moorea, Huahine, Tahaa and Raiatea. Read on for a look at the week and hear from the guests on what made BIG SKY and French Polynesia so memorable. DAY 1 Moorea An early morning departure from Papeete and a comfortable 2 hour cruise across to Opunohu Bay in Moorea. We anchored in deep blue water with sheer volcanic mountains bordering you that make it feel like a scene in Jurassic Park. Breakfast on board while the crew set the yacht up ready for a day of fun, activity and enjoying the toys. Jet skis, paddleboards, sea bobs, efoil, wakeboarding and snorkelling are just some of the experiences throughout the day. After a shared style grazing lunch, we were back in the water for more activities. The day ended with cocktails in the jacuzzi and Dinner al fresco on the upper deck enjoying the freshest tuna caught that morning. First impressions? “We arrived at 3am and were still greeted with warm towels and a welcome drink. Everyone was smiling. That set the tone for the whole week.”   DAY 2 Moorea Awaken to the sounds of the tropics and enjoy coffee on the sun loungers. After breakfast we jump in the 34ft Nortec chase boat with 2 x 400hp outboard engines, for a fast ride to sting ray city. One of the most incredible experiences of my life, something truly unique with large sting rays and reef sharks swimming around you in waist deep, crystal clear blue water. With our sense of adventure sparked, we return to find the inflatable waterslide setup from the bridge deck, letting our inner child be released, this is way too much fun! The rest of the day was spent enjoying water toys, relaxing with music by the jacuzzi, and sunset cocktails on deck. A more formal dinner tonight saw us enjoy the newly refurbished dining and saloon. Late in the evening the captain ups the anchor for an overnight journey north to the island of Huahine. Trip highlight? “Every day was a highlight! Just when you think it could not possibly get any better, it does.” DAY 3 Huahine & The Motu Today brought one of the most unique cultural experiences of the trip, a private lunch on a remote motu island. The table is set in the edge of the lapping water, the tender delivers you to the shore where locals greet you and adorn you with the traditional woven head piece. Locals are playing the ukelele and singing traditional songs, the BBQ is burning coconut husks in the coals, ready to cook the fresh lobsters and fish caught on the fringing reef this morning. A day spent enjoying local games of spearing a coconut, learning to dehusk and core a coconut, tying a traditional sarong, music, dancing and the feeling of being the only people on earth. Hearts and cups are full while we reminisce about the day under the stars on the sundeck. DAY 4 Tahaa An early departure across to the neighbouring island of Tahaa, only a few hours away, so we can enter the lagoon on sunrise, quite a sight to behold as we navigate around the north side of the island inside the fringing reef. Today we explore the local activities and visit a pearl farm, home of the famous Tahitian black pearl. A local guide takes us through the vanilla farm to see how they’re grown and the care it takes to produce some of the world’s best vanilla. Sunset cocktails as we cruise to our overnight anchorage inside Ha’amene Bay, a deep water anchorage surrounded by sheer cliffs. The crew have dressed the table for a night of fun, it’s time to dance and sing to our hearts content. Favourite way to spend an afternoon? “Sitting in the jacuzzi with a drink in hand and music playing. That was my favourite time of day!” DAY 5 Raiatea It’s time for the snorkelling gear to come out again, charge up the seabobs. We’re diving down to explore the Mamado Turtle, a striking four-metre sculpture by renowned artist Evrad Chaussoy. Sitting three metres below the surface, it’s a surreal addition to the reef. Big Sky has relocated to Raiatea, so a short fast tender ride reunites us with the mothership where we change ready for lunch ashore. We visit the northern village of the island with its distinct French Caribbean feel. After lunch it’s into another incredible anchorage at Fa’aroa bay awaiting our evening departure. Departing in the dark of the night, we head south to Moorea Most memorable meal? “That motu lunch was something else! Crystal-clear water, fresh lobster, and live music on the beach.” DAY 6 Cook’s Bay This visit to Moorea sees us in Cook’s Bay, neighbouring Opunohu Bay, arriving just after sunrise. After breakfast the morning is ours to enjoy the water toys, visit sting ray city again, or relax and unwind as we near the end of the trip. Lunch is a special treat today as our crew take us in the tender a few hundred yards away to the newly opened Cooks Bay hotel. An exquisite restaurant with a private tender dock, relaxed atmosphere of feet in the sand, with a stunning wine list and menu showcasing the freshest of Tahitian ingredients. What made BIG SKY stand out? “The yacht was amazing inside and out, but the crew made the trip. They were always one

Every trip is shaped around the people on board, whether you’re seeking barefoot adventure, a little indulgence, or total privacy, it all comes down to what feels right for you. So… what’s your style? The best part about chartering a superyacht is that it can be exactly what you want — A floating sanctuary, an expedition yacht built for remote exploration, or a secluded escape surrounded by miles of untouched water. With jagged peaks and pink-sand beaches, Komodo is where prehistoric beauty meets pristine diving. Charter a yacht here and explore remote bays, pass the legendary dragons, hike island ridgelines, and snorkel with manta rays in waters few ever reach. Papua New Guinea takes things even further off the grid. This is one of the last true frontiers for expedition yacht charters. Think volcanic coastlines, jungle-covered islands, and coastal villages that feel entirely untouched by time. Whether you’re diving WWII wrecks or witnessing ancient customs, every moment is raw and real WHAT TO EXPECT ON ONBOARD Your private yacht becomes a base for exploration, complete with dive gear, tenders, expert guides, and space to unwind in luxury after adrenaline-filled days. 🛥 For the Luxury Lovers Destinations: Amalfi Coast & St. Barths Think of these as the haute couture of yachting destinations. Transforming the Regional Economy through Below Deck Down Under

Transforming the Regional Economy through Below Deck Down Under   The Superyacht People embarked on a fun and complex journey by bringing the globally renowned TV show “Below Deck” to Australia. The company’s persistent efforts, beginning in 2017, to collaborate with the show’s producers, host location scouts, ultimately concluding in filming two seasons of a new franchise Below Deck Down Under. The initiative not only generated substantial economic benefits for the struggling regional economy during and after the COVID-19 pandemic but also showcased Australia’s natural beauty and superyacht industry. CONTACT US Background Recognizing the potential of Below Deck as a platform to promote luxury tourism and elevate Australia’s superyacht industry, The Superyacht People initiated discussions with the show’s producers in 2017. Extensive location scouting took place across Australia, with a particular emphasis on identifying stunning coastal areas that would captivate viewers, and locations that supported the on water logistical requirements. Ultimately, the Whitsundays was chosen as the backdrop for Season 1 in 2021, followed by Cairns for Season 2 in 2022. Bringing Below Deck to Australia presented several challenges, which The Superyacht People adeptly navigated: Strategies and Implementation The Superyacht People employed a strategic approach to overcome the challenges and ensure the success of Below Deck Australia: a) Partnership Development: Collaborating with local businesses, suppliers, and tourism agencies to establish a robust network of support, ensuring the availability of necessary resources and promoting local tourism. b) Location Selection: Conducting location scouting across Australia to identify settings that would appeal to viewers and contribute to local tourism. Consideration was given to choosing a location within a maximum 1-hour transfer or 20-25 nautical miles to minimize downtime during crew transfers. c) Production Logistics: Coordinating and managing the complex logistics involved in chartering superyachts, support vessels, water taxis, marinas, fuelling, and sourcing shore-based provisions, accommodations, and meals for the cast, crew, and production team. d) Production Schedule: Following a meticulous 8-week production schedule consisting of 9 back-to-back charters, each lasting 3-4 days, with unique preference sheets for each charter. This required seamless coordination between the superyacht, suppliers, yacht crew, support vessel, and production crew. e) Crew Support: Ensuring the support vessel followed the superyacht to cater to the needs of the cast, crew, and production team, preparing over 200 meals per day in addition to the food for the superyacht’s guests and crew. f) Water Taxi Transfers: Coordinating transfers for the production crew via water taxis, considering potential downtime and the need for efficient and reliable transportation. g) Catering Services: Arranging for the support vessel to prepare over 200 meals per day to cater to the production crew in addition to the superyacht’s guests and crew, ensuring quality and timely food service. h) Proximity Considerations: Selecting locations within a maximum 1-hour transfer or 20-25 nautical miles to minimize downtime during crew transfers, optimizing efficiency and productivity. i) Health and Safety Measures: Implementing stringent COVID-19 protocols to safeguard the health and well-being of the cast, crew, and local communities involved in the production. Results and Impact The Superyacht People’s meticulous planning and execution of Below Deck Australia resulted in significant results and impacts: a) Economic Revival: The production of two seasons injected tens of millions of dollars into the struggling regional economy, creating employment opportunities and supporting local businesses involved in the production and hospitality sectors. b) Tourism Promotion: The visually stunning locations showcased in the show, including the Whitsundays and Cairns, attracted domestic and international tourists, revitalizing the local tourism industry and highlighting Australia’s natural beauty. c) Employment Opportunities: The production provided employment for approximately 70 production crew members, working 24/7, thereby contributing to the local workforce and supporting economic recovery. d) Efficient Operations: The strategic coordination of logistics, including superyacht, support vessel, and water taxi transfers, ensured smooth production operations with minimal downtime and enhanced productivity. Conclusion The Superyacht People’s dedication and meticulous planning in bringing Below Deck Australia to life have demonstrated the transformative potential of the entertainment industry in revitalizing struggling regional economies. By leveraging the popularity of the show, the company injected substantial funds into the region, supported employment, and showcased Australia’s picturesque landscapes. The Superyacht People’s successful execution of Below Deck Australia serves as an inspiring case study, highlighting the power of strategic partnerships, efficient logistics coordination, and innovation in contributing to economic recovery and sustainable tourism growth. Great Barrier Reef Opens to Superyachts

Superyacht Australia (SA) has for some time been seeking to reform the Whitsundays Plan of Management in order to facilitate greater access for vessels over 35 metres in length. Marine Tourism is a significant part of the Australian economy and a growing contributor to Australia’s tourism offering. Superyacht Australia has been lobbying for the past 9 years to allow superyachts greater than 35 metres to be able to cruise and anchor in key spots within the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). Tourism Australia markets the GBR as Australia’s iconic tourism destination to the global market yet superyachts over 35 metres have been unable to enjoy this iconic destination forcing our own Australia superyacht owners to take their vessels to Fiji and other Pacific countries rather than spend their tourism dollars in their own backyard. M. Edwards CEO Superyacht Australia commented, “The Turnbull government has read the Superyacht industry economic impact study and understands the value of the jobs and economic benefits of this sector to Australia, regional Australia in particular. This small move in regulations will have a big impact on regional economies who can now finally look to see greater utilisation of marina and refit facilities and the enormous spend with local businesses that comes with this.” David Good, Operations Manager for Cairns Marlin Marina, welcomed the additional superyacht anchorages commenting, “Many superyachts over 35m have been deterred from heading South for cruising due to the restrictions on access for vessels in the Whitsundays. With superyachts limited to a maximum of 12 persons it was always very hard for visiting captains to understand the restrictions on access to one of the world’s best cruising grounds. These 21 new anchorages will really open up another cruising option and benefit the whole region by encouraging these vessels to stay longer and venture further. The maintenance and logistics these vessels require when in the area, benefit a massive number of small businesses, something that many businesses in regional Queensland will welcome” With Tourism identified as one of five ‘super sectors’ to drive Australia’s prosperity into the future, the ability to cruise in the GBR will not only attract more vessels to Australia but they will stay longer and Superyacht Australia is already developing the marketing collateral to make this happen. An exciting new cruising itinerary calling in at all the major superyacht marinas from Cairns to Tasmania is currently being developed and will be promoted at the Monaco Yacht show. Australia has some of the most spectacular cruising destinations and attractions in the world, and about 70 per cent of all international visitors report enjoying coastal experiences as part of their trip. There is no doubt the superyacht industry provides economic benefits to the Australian economy across an array of industries, including, tourism, transport and marine maintenance. In fact, a recent study commissioned by Superyacht Australia found the industry contributed a total of $1.97 billion to gross domestic product (GDP) in the 2016 financial year. Superyacht Australia CEO M. Edwards further stated, “Superyachts are built to the highest environmental standards and lead the world in all aspects of maritime best practices, pose no additional risk to the environmental, social or cultural values of the Whitsunday region. We believe that owners and guests of superyachts should have the same rights to access and enjoy the Whitsundays as any other visitor to the region and the changes to the plan of management will finally allow this.” Paul Darrouzet, owner of award winning Abel Point Marina added, “The increased access for superyacht anchorages in the Whitsundays is a huge boost for the local economy and the superyacht industry across Australia. Superyacht captains now have the flexibility to develop a comprehensive itinerary in the Whitsundays which has direct benefit to our marina business and connected local services. The new amendments are very timely for the upcoming cruising season in the Whitsundays.” The new amendments will create 21 superyacht anchorages for superyachts less than 70m throughout the Whitsunday Planning Area. It is great to see the Minister for the Environment and Energy, The Hon. Josh Frydenberg, welcomes superyachts to the Whitsunday region and acknowledge their environmental credentials and significant benefit to the region’s economy. The Turnbull government has listened to Industry and Australia will reap the benefits of this decision through an increase in superyacht visitation leading to a greater need for skilled workers, increased job opportunities and this will also open up opportunities for apprentices in a number of trade areas. This increased visitation also leads to more private investment in infrastructure and more jobs in the refit and repair industries. The superyacht industry will make significant inroads into achieving the government’s 2020 strategy. Improving access for superyachts aligns with the State and Federal government tourism industry potential for increasing overnight visitor expenditure. N&J Boss Excited for Gold Coast Superyacht Rendezvous

VIDEO WHEN Gold Coaster Cameron Bray landed a superyacht deckhand gig while travelling aged 22, he had little inkling the sector would become his career. But 15 years later, he has created his own thriving superyacht business managing the country’s biggest charter fleet, having started out of his home in Burleigh in 2012. The 37-year-old is as excited as anyone about this weekend’s Superyacht Rendezvous at Gold Coast City Marina, aimed at promoting the sector. He spent five years working on board big boats and the past 10 managing superyachts charters for rock stars, movie bigshots, international royalty and Australia’s Packer family. Twice he’s taken in the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Monaco from a superyacht in the harbour. While he won’t name names, he says he has helped celebrities avoid paparazzi while on holiday in Australia, including organising “decoy” yachts to go in the opposite direction on Sydney Harbour to fool photographers. His first job for a Saudi Princess, which he landed walking the docks in the south of France, was also his first big break. “After a summer season she told the captain she liked me and wanted me to stay,” Mr Bray recalls. The captain asked what he wanted to stick around and Mr Bray negotiated for them to pay to put him through health and safety and sailing courses. “I was incredibly humbled and chuffed to be recognised as somebody she wanted to have in her life on a regular basis. But they want familiar faces coming back, wanted me driving the tender, in the water taking their kids wakeboarding and jetskiing. “So you get that trust and you run with it. It’s one thing to get that opportunity, but the second thing is to do something with it.” He spent four years working for the princess and did his share of grunt work. “The term is affectionately known as chamois technician. You have a chamois attached to your hand the whole time, cleaning, scrubbing decks, all the stainless, varnishing, doing paint touch ups. It’s all part of the gig.” Mr Bray said there was no secret to securing the ongoing work with the princess other than being himself: “I would have a conversation with her the same as I would with one of my friends. “She liked the fact I wasn’t stumbling over words and getting overawed because she was someone with a title next to her name. She wanted people around who were genuine, transparent and trustworthy and that’s the main thing because they are trusting you with their lives and the lives of their children.” His advice to anyone wanting to work in the superyacht sector was to do the same and not be intimidated by the wealth or high-profile of owners and charter clients. “You treat them like everyone else, with respect. You look at the calibre of some of our charter guests and I don’t gossip or put anything on social media. “At the end of the day they are not calling me up and saying ‘Hey Cam, let’s go hang out on the yacht and get on the gas’. It’s just about you having confidence in your knowledge base and ability and knowing that’s why they are coming to you.” Nowadays, he’s more on the business side and has seen his Burleigh-based firm flourish from having two superyachts for charter to 15 and recently boosted his staff from two to five. Last year, the world’s largest superyacht charter and brokerage firm Northrop & Johnson approached him to be part of their first Australian branch which saw him rebrand from Bray Management to Northrop & Johnson Australia. “Becoming the Australian arm of Northrop & Johnson has propelled us faster along the path we were already on and catapulted the business to a whole new level.” The married father of two, aged nine and four, sees only upside for the sector in Australia with hopes superyacht visitation will increase from its existing base of about 60 to 70 a year. And he hopes to grow with it. “I studied business on the Coast and went overseas to explore the world a bit. I thought superyachts would be fun for a summer. Now 15 years later I’m still involved.” Ryan Keen, Gold Coast Bulletin May 20, 2017 12:00am full link – click HERE

Home to the world’s largest coral reef system in the world, this impressive ecosystem not only is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it also is one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. Bray Wins 2016 Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur Award

Northrop & Johnson Managing Director Australia Cameron Bray recently was presented with the 2016 Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur Tourism Award. The Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur Awards recognize the area’s top business founders and entrepreneurs who have contributed to economic prosperity, challenged the status quo or pioneered social change. Awards are presented in the following categories: Retails & Services, Hospitality, Tourism & Events, Digital & Technology, Property & Construction, Professional Services, Health & Fitness and Manufacturing, Wholesale & Distribution, Social Entrepreneur, Startup, Young Professional of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The event gala itself is heralded as a highlight of the Gold Coast social calendar and is an ideal networking opportunity for young professionals in the region. Bray was the recipient in the tourism category, praised for his contribution to Gold Coast Tourism. Bray has been a major player in the yachting and tourism industries for many years. In 2012, he established his own charter management firm and in 2016, he joined the internationally renowned Northrop & Johnson team, offering clients a brick-and-mortar operation in Australia. “Winning was entirely unexpected,” said Bray. “We were up against serious competition in the tourism and hospitality industries, some very well-known companies. I’m really proud to be recognized for something that I am incredibly passionate about. I live and breathe this industry and thrive on being a part of the growth. We certainly don’t do it for the accolades, but it is always nice.” Bray faced down a variety of exceptional companies in his category, including theme parks, attractions and hotels. One of Bray’s main focuses is to educate the Australian market about the yachting industry, specifically chartering in Australia and bringing more yachts to the region, which is well suited for the lifestyle. Bray is proud that the efforts of the Northrop & Johnson team have been recognized outside of the yachting industry and considers this award as a success for yachting in the region. “What I am proudest of is to be recognized outside of our industry by the mainstream audience,” said Bray. “Superyachts have always been a bit of the unknown, but we’re now seeing our lobbying and marketing efforts paying off by more yachts visiting our region, more guests chartering yachts, purchasing yachts and setting them up as charter businesses. All this equates to a greater supply chain benefit through the entire industry right down to the mum and dad businesses. We work hard promoting N&J in Australia and globally. At charter events and yacht shows, our job is first and foremost to raise the profile of Australia through destination marketing, as a region.”

Northrop & Johnson 2017 Superyacht Famil Information

The Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef (SYGGBR) last week welcomed delegates for an international “famil tour”. It comes after a report, commissioned by the Australian Marine Export Group, found that easing charter restriction on foreign superyachts could grow the industry’s Gross Domestic Product from $1.97 billion in 2016 to $3.34 billion by 2021. In the meantime, the delegates, some of whom have never before visited Cairns, were given a comprehensive tour of the Far North last week. The delegates enjoyed their time on board our N&J Australia charter yachts DREAMTIME & SPIRIT. To view the official Channel 7 news coverage CLICK HERE.

Superyacht Australia Strengthens Lobbying Efforts

Could the Australian superyacht industry’s recent Economic Impact Study prove to be the propellant needed for legislative change? “For the first time ever, we have a dollar value on the superyacht industry in Australia,” Cameron Bray, managing director of Northrop & Johnson (N&J) Australia, told SuperyachtNews at the MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona. The AEC Group’s recent Economic Impact Study, commissioned by Superyacht Australia and supported by the Queensland Government, concluded that the superyacht industry contributed $1.97 billion (AUS) to Australia’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the 2016 financial year. The study also suggests a 70 per cent increase to $3.34 billion is achievable by 2021 if the government ratifies five predominant initiatives set forth by Superyacht Australia within the report. Without ratification of the proposed policies, however, the association forecasts a $2.2 billion contribution to GDP by 2021 at a 13 per cent trajectory. “Our neighbours, New Zealand, Fiji and Tahiti have all recently changed their charter regulations to allow foreign-flagged vessels to charter there,” continued Bray, “but it’s something Australia hasn’t done yet. As an industry body, Superyacht Australia is lobbying hard to get this changed. “The key for us at this point is to explore what the new mechanism would be. Is it to amend current laws or find a way to manipulate existing laws – or is it a separate piece of legislation all together? We can see light at the end of the tunnel, but we just need to play ball with the political process.” In the past 12 months, Northrop & Johnson Australia’s charter portfolio has grown from two yachts under central agency, to 12. “The charter market in Australia is growing at a rapid rate and it’s feeding the brokerage market more and more. People are now looking to buy larger yachts because they know they’ll be able to sustain a charter business.” He adds: “You don’t need incredibly large yachts to enjoy what the Australian coastline has to offer. Our sweet spot is the 30 – 50m sector, but there are only a couple of yachts over 40m at the moment. That said, the demand for 60 – 70m-plus yachts is also there – the requests are coming in but we simply don’t have the inventory to supply. “We need to change the regulation so that the 70m yacht doing a world tour, for example, has guaranteed charter clients in Australia. That’s when you see more yachts trickling into the region and our shipyards becoming increasingly populated.” Other significant recent developments made by Superyacht Australia include the recent culmination of a public consultation with Marine Park Authority, the custodians of the Great Barrier Reef, to allow superyachts greater access to anchorages within the region (more details on this will be released later this year). And last year, the association ensured that Australian crew qualifications would be recognised by the MCA. Australia is continually dubbed a market for the future – and based on Superyacht Australia’s EIS and other recent developments, the growing demand from clients, and the region’s natural assets, it’s perfectly poised to start reaching its maximum potential. From 22 – 24 May, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of The Superyacht Group, Martin Redmayne, will be speaking at the Australian Superyacht & Marine Export Conference (ASMEX) at the Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove Resort in Queensland.

N&J HOSTS FAM TRIP OF A LIFETIME

Northrop & Johnson hosted a successful tandem FAM (familiarization trip) in Australia on board two of its premier charter yachts, SAHANA and SPIRIT, in March 2017. Australian superyacht and tourism heavyweights have recently rolled out the red carpet for some of the world’s most influential charter brokers to experience the wonders of Down Under. With the support of Tourism Australia and Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia, Northrop & Johnson Australia, which manages the nation’s largest superyacht charter fleet, staged an eight-day (FAM) trip that invited key international industry figures to experience two of the country’s most iconic superyacht cruising destinations. Charter brokers from London, Monaco, Russia, New York, Florida and New Zealand spent four days exploring Sydney on board 120-foot (36.6m) luxury superyacht SAHANA, and then were introduced to the magnificence of the Great Barrier Reef aboard the super sleek 115-foot (35m) motor yacht SPIRIT. Northrop & Johnson Australia managing director Cameron Bray said the trip familiarized international brokers with the world-class superyacht charter experience available in Australia. “These people are based in some of the world’s wealthiest hubs. Their clientele comprises Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) individuals who are adventurous and want to go further afield,” said Bray. “We were able to show them the diversity available for superyachts cruising in Australia; from the cosmopolitan experience in Sydney with superb shore-based highlights to the fishing, diving and exploration possible on the Reef.” Bray said the experience was designed to mimic a luxury yacht charter to give the international brokers the confidence to send their clients to experience Australia with Northrop & Johnson. “Most of them had never been to Australia; this was an opportunity to show them that we have exceptional yachts, highly professional crew and spectacular cruising grounds that meet the high expectations and demands of their clientele,” he said. “We can send them our photos and brochures all day, but if the brokers experience it first hand, they will have much more confidence in sending their clients.” Tourism Australia global manager of experiences Karen Fitzgerald, who co-hosted a wine tasting aboard the SAHANA for the group, said that the ambitions of the superyacht charter industry in Australia aligned closely with its own efforts to attract more UHNW tourists Down Under. “This is a relatively untapped sector of the tourist market for Australia, and certainly an area that has the potential to give us a competitive advantage against many of our competitor destinations,” said Fitzgerald. “What happens on board is obviously critical to the superyacht experience, but so too are the land-based experiences, which are such an important aspect of the itinerary. This is an area we see huge opportunity for Australian tourism and key to our thinking when putting together this FAM trip. It was great to involve one of our close partners, Ultimate Winery Experiences of Australia, whose premium collection of award-winning wineries offer the kind of uniquely Australian food and wine experiences in spectacular locations — we feel they resonate very strongly with the international superyacht customer.” Superyacht Australia CEO MaryAnne Edwards said the trip eventually would have a knock-on effect for the industry’s extensive supply chain which employs thousands of people. “There is so much scope for growth in the superyacht charter industry here and it’s exciting to see initiatives such as this, bringing us closer to realizing this potential,” Edwards said. Bray said early feedback from the participants was very encouraging, with some indicating they had clients who would be interested in taking an Australian superyacht charter. “All of them were incredibly impressed, particularly with the high quality and variety of cuisine on board our yachts and with how much there is to do down here,” he said. Aside from cruising two of Australia’s most iconic charter destinations in absolute luxury, the group experienced high-end hotel accommodation, fine food, superb wine, and iconic leisure activities on and offshore. In Sydney, the group explored the world-famous harbor and stunning Pittwater from the plush comfort of SAHANA; they also climbed the Harbour Bridge, took a sea plane flight and savored fine onshore dining in Palm Beach. Guests viewed ancient rock art on the guided Aboriginal Heritage Walk in spectacular Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and stopped in at Manly before jetting off to Far North Queensland for the next leg of the trip. In Port Douglas, the group boarded SPIRIT and made way out to sea to enjoy snorkeling, diving and exploring the natural wonder of the Great Barrier Reef. The four-day reef jaunt included a stop at Lizard Island for water sports and exploration of the island’s 1000-hectare national park, pristine beaches and surrounding reefs. Bray said Northrop & Johnson would monitor the impact of the FAM trip on its charter bookings; he hopes to make this a regular event to increase the awareness of chartering in the region.

N&J: Australian Industry Ready at Major Show

As the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) wrapped on Sunday, Northrop & Johnson Australia reflected on a busy show that demonstrated Australia is at a tipping point. It was the first Australian show for the global superyacht giant after its move into the Australian market in February. Prior to the show, the Northrop & Johnson Australia team were confident of the Australian domestic market’s ability to support a strong superyacht presence; now that’s been reinforced by the exceptional levels of interest the brokers encountered. “Australia has a rich maritime culture with a burgeoning superyacht industry, which N&J see as a great opportunity to raise the bar and continue positive growth,” says Cameron Bray, managing director of Northrop & Johnson Australia. Northrop & Johnson Australia showed the two largest charter yachts which have been seen at the show – 33-metre Corroboree and 36-metre Sahana, both now bound for a charter season in the Whitsundays. Alongside the two stand-out beauties, was the actively for sale 22-metre Cresta Motor Yacht, and rounding out the Northrop & Johnson display; 26-metre wave-piercing charter catamaran, Pure Adrenalin – a corporate event favourite. “We’ve seen very positive growth in the Australian charter industry in recent years, which is now reflected by an increase in enquiries for buyers looking to have their yachts run as commercial entities,” says Bray. “Feedback during the show was fantastic, with show organisers and show goers alike telling us how excited they were to see the Northrop & Johnson Australia stand. Spreading across an entire pier and with a Waterscape platform providing an escape from the bustle of the show; Northrop & Johnson’s superyacht world was a display unlike any an Australian show had hosted before.” Northrop & Johnson Australia will be in attendance at the Sydney International Boat Show, as well as the Monaco Yacht Show, Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and Antigua Charter Show.

Both – an experience designed to be shared, both offering exclusivity and freedom, both – tailored for the ultimate in luxury experience. Bringing superyachts to the Great Barrier Reef

With the Great Barrier Reef one of the world’s leading natural attractions, the region should be enjoying an influx of superyacht guests ready to explore the Queensland wonder for itself. Unfortunately the reef and its surrounds are noticeably lacking in yachts, something which we in the local industry know is due in part to a piece of legislation enacted before superyachts were widely in use. Superyachts are defined as luxury vessels with a master and crew, greater than 24 meters in length, do not carry cargo and carry a maximum of 12 guests. Due to a rule limiting superyachts over 35-metres access the Great Barrier Reef, 50% of the 70 superyachts which visit Australia annually, aren’t visiting the Reef and its surrounds. I’ve joined in with Superyacht Australia and other industry figures in lobbying the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) for greater access to the region for superyachts between 35-70 meters in the Whitsundays Plan of Management. On behalf of Superyacht Australia, I recently presented to the GBRMPA TRAC (Tourism Reef Advisory Committee) to provide further insight into the issue, with the aim of educating the group on superyachts and how they can be integrated into the plan of management. We wanted to help the advisory committee understand what superyachts are and how they operate, the current state of the Australian industry and its expected growth, and the impact that growth could have on the Whitsundays region should these yachts be allowed to cruise the reef. Creating tailored rules around superyacht access to restricted areas of the reef has the potential – we believe – to have a dramatic positive impact not only on the Whitsunday region’s economy, but the wider Australian economy and superyacht industry. Within Australia, superyachts represent a $300 million industry – and growing – with the vessels requiring a diverse and significant supply chain. Yachts require marina services, refit and repair, interior designers, tourism services, fruit and vegetables, meat, alcohol and florists amongst other things, and superyachts with guests onboard will spend on average $20,000 per day on tourism activities alone. With the exceptional knock-on effect for businesses at stake here, is there a detrimental environmental flipside to allowing greater access for superyachts to the reef? The answer to that is no, with superyachts equipped with advanced tertiary and waste removal systems. State of the art navigation systems and highly-trained, dedicated crew mean instances of yachts running aground are extremely rare and yachts carry world-leading fuel systems onboard. They’re all also required to work with thorough risk management plans in place to meet their international safety and class standards. We in the industry, believe greater access will raise the destination profile and grow the regional economy. Add to that superyacht owners who are looking for environmentally-sensitive experiences, and who use local tourism operators, and we think the effects will be prolonged and positive. Over the next five years Superyacht Australia would like to see between 30 and 50 more superyachts in Australian waters each year, with 50 percent of those visiting the Great Barrier Reef. As most vessels will only stay in a region for a few weeks at a time, these numbers would result in around one charter every ten days of the year. That makes the superyacht industry a high-yield, low-impact prospect for the region, bringing significant benefits. Superyacht visitation to the Reef is currently less than one percent of all commercial operations, with the proposed changes bringing rules governing superyacht use in the area, into line with the positive impact and lack of negatives superyachts represent. Onboard, charter schedules are planned with great care and sustainability in mind and high profile guests benefit the region on a macro and micro level. We think welcoming these beneficial guests into our waters can only be a positive for generations. I’d welcome your thoughts on the topic, please don’t hesitate to send them through.

There’s no business like show business

It is time to sit back and take a breath. The last month and a half has seen the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), two of the superyacht industry’s busiest and arguably most important shows, pass in a whirlwind of meetings and networking drinks, old faces and new faces. There are few ways that are equal to the power of these shows when it comes to building meaningful relationships, gauging the current state of the superyacht industry and helping promote Australia as a key player in the marketplace. For Bray Management, both MYS and FLIBS were an extremely good opportunity to share the news about the evolving Australian charter regulations with the wider industry. At MYS I was invited by the International Superyacht Society (ISS) to present an update on the important legislative changes that Australia is on the cusp of making. A major barrier to owners exploring off-the-beaten-track is often the expense—most will want to know that the costs of getting their yacht half way across the world can be offset by chartering their yacht out when they are not on board. Less restrictive charter regulations will encourage more owners to make the trip south. And, of course, a greater variety of charter yachts available in the region will encourage more charter visitors. Thanks to lobbying by Superyacht Australia, and its member companies, of which we’re one, temporary superyacht licenses for non-Australian vessels are being issued by the Australian government, enabling them to cruise in in the country’s waters for up to 12 months with visas for the entire crew. We hope that permanent changes will be implemented in the next few months, encouraging more owners and vessels to come to Australia. Alongside its lobbying role, the importance of Superyacht Australia in unifying Australian superyacht businesses and presenting a national ‘brand’ at international boat shows cannot be underestimated. Businesses in a country like Australia require a collaborative rather than purely competitive outlook when it comes to marketing. As the leading body of the Australian industry, Superyacht Australia (which I am proud to have recently been elected a committee member of) is dedicated to supporting its member companies by both attracting yachts to the local market and aiding local companies connect to a wider client audience in the global superyacht sphere. At international boat shows like MYS and FLIBS, the unified approach and regional brand presence of a body like this is a powerful tool. The moods at the shows on both sides of the pond felt overwhelmingly positive. The tendency in previous years has always been to be cautious with any optimism, but it seemed to me that during this year’s MYS, for a good many, the cautiousness had finally given way to pure optimism. Clients were present and receptive, meaningful meetings and conversations were being had, and the Australia Superyacht Pavilion saw a lot of significant traffic. Here’s to seeing tangible positive results for the Australian superyacht industry from MYS and FLIBS in the coming months.

Superyacht Australia increases strength of national committee

Superyacht Australia’s announced the addition of new members, including a charter expert this week at the Australian International Marine Export Group’s (AIMEX) annual conference, ASMEX. This year’s ASMEX conference at Sanctuary Cove saw Superyacht Australia announce its new superyacht committee line up. Superyacht Australia is dedicated to developing Australia as a charter destination and has signalled its commitment to the attraction and facilitation of foreign flagged yachts chartering within the country, through the appointment of a charter expert to its ranks. Bray Management’s Cameron Bray has been heavily involved with Superyacht Australia’s efforts to smooth the way for visiting charter yachts. His appointment to the industry committee comes at a time when Australia is on the cusp of legislative changes that will affect charter yachts and he’s looking forward to sharing his broad knowledge of the international charter market with the committee for the betterment of the Australian cruising climate. “Superyacht Australia is very effective at initiating new projects to ensure the Australian industry stays competitive,” says Bray. “As charter brokers working with both local and international clients to help them experience our local industry, as well as the best of the superyacht industry around the world, we have a unique perspective which we’re looking forward to bringing to the committee.” Bray’s appointment to the committee is in recognition of his efforts to develop the Australian industry, working alongside Superyacht Australia. In his position as managing director of Bray Management, Bray is at the front line of opportunities and issues facing local charter yachts, foreign flagged charter yachts, crew, the onboard event sector and the Australian private ownership market. The leading body of the Australian industry promotes local superyacht companies and the country’s cruising grounds to the world, supporting its member companies by both attracting yachts to the local market and assisting local companies to reach them in the global superyacht sphere. Other committee members include Muir’s Matthew Johnston; also a member of the International Superyacht Society board, the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show’s Barry Jenkins, Kane Bygrave of Aurora Yacht Logistics, Chris Blackwell of Marine WA, Joachim Howard of Ocean Alliance, Steve Fisher of Rivergate Marina, Captain Richard Morris of Australian Superyachts, Byron Rabone, Rabone Systems, Penske Power Systems’ Andrew Rossi, Denis Maher of BSE Maritime Solutions, and Derrick Nowak of Awlgrip.

Resident agent makes for easy entry into Australian waters

With Australia’s pristine beaches and world class cruising grounds open to foreign-flagged charter yachts, the team at Bray Management has come up with a solution to take all of the regulatory hassle out of visits to the land down under. The solution streamlines the import process for foreign-flagged yachts with the experienced local agent, providing a service which allows the yacht’s management to avoid a complex entry and clearance process. A temporary license allows foreign flagged yachts to enter Australian waters for the purpose of charter for up to 12 months. Acting as resident agent for this temporary license process, Bray Management remove the need for the yacht to register as a company and effectively act as a local guarantor, carrying out the complicated steps of the process on the yacht’s behalf. Thanks to the new charter yacht process developed by Bray, visiting vessels only need to worry about enjoying their experience in Australia, safe in the knowledge that their visit will be free of complex logistics. With the Bray Management solution, the visiting yacht is able to enter Australian waters and charter easily without the need to establish a complicated tax structure. As the resident agent, Bray Management is able to apply for the Temporary license, managing the process on the yacht’s behalf with the Australian Taxation Office. Bray will take care of all relevant GST obligations on behalf of the yacht, as well as managing all Australian Customs obligations, including preparing importation documents and dealing with the local Customs authority. Cameron Bray of Bray Management is excited by what this means for charterers. As a local superyacht expert with strong experience in the global industry, he knows there’s no question that the best way to explore the country’s expansive coastline is by superyacht. Being able to offer a complete resident agent service will see more yachts able to enjoy Australia’s coastlines, with the benefits to charter guests – and to local industry – they’ll bring. Bray’s team’s years of work within the superyacht industry, sees them use this knowledge to maximise benefit for visiting vessels in their care and ensure the guest experience is faultless. They’re also looking forward to the additional leg this will add to their charter partners’, in Asia and the Pacific’s, cruising schedule. “Foreign-flagged charter vessels are now able to incorporate Australia into their Asia-Pacific itineraries, enjoying some of the world’s top tourist destinations, with locations such as the Whitsunday Islands and the expansive Great Barrier Reef to boast,” says Bray.

New charter yacht, Sahana, launches to Australian market

In a nod to the growing Australian charter market, one owner has designed a charter yacht specifically around the guest experience.  An Australian through and through, we’ve just launched 36-metre Sahana to the global charter market, with her first cruising grounds set to be in Australia. Originally built by Australian yard Oceanfast, Sahana, has undergone an extensive refit by an experienced owner determined to create a yacht which fulfils the charter guests’ needs. “I was looking for a near-new vessel with custom/ship-style engineering. I also favour full beam saloons; this provides you with the volume of a much bigger yacht, incorporating huge lounge, dining and bar with four usable areas within the saloon. I wanted 120 feet or just under – which is a great size for berthing and for getting into marine parks in North Queensland,” says the owner of Sahana. After an extensive refit which has seen interior volume carved into spaces which work with the guest experience, the resulting yacht offers something new to the Australian charter market. Sahana is within the size threshold necessary to access Australia’s marine parks, including sites like the Great Barrier Reef – one of the seven wonders of the natural world – but equipped with space more often associated with much larger yachts. Finer details of the yacht include a carefully-curated wine cellar, a full garage of toys and experienced crew who deliver a market leading guest experience. The owner designed the refit himself, and is particularly pleased with the resulting large entertainment areas. “The size and number of new areas created has made the boat extra-usable, with a warm feel to it. We use flowers as colour, allowing us to change them all the time.” As central agent, we’re looking forward to bringing the yacht to the market, as it offers something new to the experience previously available in region’s waters. “Sahana breaks from convention in how superyachts are presented for charter in Australia. With minimalist appeal, she is like a New York penthouse on the water. I am incredibly excited to offer the ‘Sahana experience to our clients,” says Bray. Sahana is equipped with four cabins, and accommodates eight guests, and 70 day guests, with a crew of six. Though he hadn’t made his previously-owned yachts available for charter, the owner’s interest was piqued after a discussion with Bray on the burgeoning Australian and Pacific market. “After looking at the charter manager market in Australia I decided that Cameron Bray was most suitable for us his depth of experience. Willingness to always be of assistance, and reliability made Bray Management the right decision for us. Cameron Bray has extensive connections around the world in the charter industry allowing us to gain exposure to the international market. Feedback has been incredible so far,” comments Sahana’s owner. The yacht is currently lying in the Whitsundays and will summer in Sydney, before further cruises through the region next season. Take a video tour of Sahana, here.

Southern Cloud Returns for Superyacht Charter

In much-anticipated news, Southern Cloud, a majestic yacht with an exceptional history, is once again available to the public. After spending several years in dedicated private service, regal Southern Cloud is once more available for superyacht charter. With a new crew and with fresh, independent management, this unique vessel has already put the industry on notice. The 130’ triple-masted yacht, built in Denmark, is Australia’s largest privately-owned sailing yacht and her reemergence on the charter scene has been eagerly anticipated. Her story is as romantic as her elegant lines. Stripped to her bones, she was painstakingly modernised and filled with every comfort to meet modern cruising needs. Starting life as Butterfly McQueen, she was designed as an adventurer’s yacht, with one-touch controls at the helm for the solo sailor seeking complete independence. But her owner neglected her, leaving her bereft on the Australian coast. Recognising her pedigree, one of her current owners rescued the yacht from where she lay forsaken on a stretch of Gold Coast mud and set about the labour of love, restoring her to glory. That was over six years ago, and since that fateful day, she’s been thoroughly modernised and polished back to reveal the graceful lines of a yacht designed to shine. Renamed Southern Cloud, she’s due for a final refit next year which will complete her quality restoration and see her ready to forge out on adventures globally, as she was designed to do. With the size and grandeur of a motoryacht, and the elegance and finesse of a classic sailing beauty, Southern Cloud is now offering the public the opportunity to experience something truly unique in Australian waters. She has maintained DNV 1A1 class throughout her working life, and is based in Sydney, though available to charter around the coast. Currently nearing the end of a successful Whitsundays owner excursion, Southern Cloud will return to her berth in Sydney, late October, ready for the charter season. Managed independently by Bray Management, Southern Cloud’s owners took on the company to ensure this majestic yacht was managed professionally. They’re reaping the benefits of experienced, capable management, including better cost rationalisation, safety procedures, booking management and of course, refit and repair work, which has meant the yacht is ready to sail, and in top condition, while protecting her inherent value.

A superyacht and seven days on the Great Barrier Reef

Ever wondered if you could be spending your time off better? Here’s what seven days exploring the Great Barrier Reef by superyacht looks like. Day 1 Embark your superyacht at Cairns Marlin Marina. Enjoy a lazy lunch underway to Opal Reef for the first of the many opportunities you’ll have to experience the outer Great Barrier Reef. The outer reef affords great protection from the Coral Sea as you enjoy a peaceful night’s rest at anchor. Dinner tonight is a simple but elegant affair and a chance to plot your adventures for the week ahead. Day 2 Awake to being surrounded only by natural reef and the sounds of the sea. After an early departure and a scenic cruise along the inside of the Barrier Reef, arrive at the beginning of the Ribbon Reefs. Enjoy a spectacular dive at “Steve’s Bommie” with the chance to visit an isolated pinnacle, frequented by large schools of pelagic fish and superb hard and soft corals. For snorkelers, the numerous large coral heads within the lagoon offer the excitement of swimming with a tremendous variety of colourful tropical fish. In the afternoon, prepare for a dive at Ribbon Reef No. 5, known as “Andy’s Postcard” and home to an abundance of underwater life. During certain times of the year, this stretch of coast is visited by migrating minke whales, which will swim right up to the yacht’s stern and normally allow guests to join them in the water for a firsthand experience. After dinner, venture on deck for the opportunity to appreciate the southern sky and the chance to star gaze at the constellations. Day 3 An early arrival at Pixie’s Pinnacle, renowned for its vibrant coloured marine life and exceptional visibility. Lunch is at anchor in Dynamite Pass and the afternoon can be spent snorkelling at the world class Cod Hole site. Then a sunset cruise to Lizard Island to anchor in picturesque Watson’s Bay for the night. Dinner is a feast of freshly caught seafood, followed by the entertainment of the illuminated underwater lights attracting huge grouper and schools of trevally off the stern all night. Day 4 An early morning swim in the crystal clear waters of Lizard Island followed by a shore excursion to climb Cook’s Lookout. Alternatively, follow the State Park nature walk across the island to “Blue Lagoon” – a beautiful setting for a picnic lunch and a chance to explore one of the island’s 16 beaches. In the afternoon, an offshore fishing expedition, beach volleyball or possibly a dive at “snake pit” for the more adventurous. A short scenic helicopter ride offers an aerial appreciation of the panoramic colours of the reef. Music and cocktails on the fly bridge deck as the sun sets, uninterrupted over the coastline in the west. Day 5 An early departure with breakfast underway while enjoying the sun and scenery before arriving late morning at Cooktown, a quaint country town and the site of Captain Cook’s landing. An expert guide can take guests on a “safari” back out to one of the Ribbon Reefs and share his extensive knowledge of the region, whilst diving for crayfish or trolling for large billfish. After re-joining your Yacht, indulge in water sports or enjoy champagne with friends in comfort and style, whilst the crew discreetly decorate the yacht for a theme night, with costumes and entertainment worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster! Day 6 Start with an early morning swim in the turquoise shallows and sample breakfast ashore on the picturesque and remote Mackay Sand Cay? Then either take a private tour of the world heritage listed rainforest at the Daintree National Park or continue to anchor off fashionable Port Douglas. Enjoy lunch at one of the outstanding restaurants and indulge in some boutique shopping. Invigorate your senses at Port Douglas’ fantastic day spa, before re-joining your Yacht for a sheltered late afternoon coastal cruise to the private Double Island retreat. Day 7 A final breakfast on board as you prepare to bid farewell to the crew, while your yacht heads along the coastline bound for Cairns Marlin Marina, signalling the end to a memorable and unique charter experience

We feature in Superyacht News; best of the best EDMs

Superyacht News recently picked out our monthly newsletters as leading the way in the global industry. Read more below, and catch the full story at SuperyachtNews.com. Superyacht News receives countless company newsletters on a daily basis. Unfortunately, a significant portion of these amount to little more than a month’s worth of press releases, repackaged, and this can trigger the clicking of the ‘delete’ button. It is not useful or constructive to receive the same information regurgitated and this propensity to do so means that a valuable piece of information may be lost in the mire. However, there are a number of companies that are taking a unique approach to the way they package their newsletters, and this is forging new ties between business and media, something that is all too often sorely missing within the superyacht industry. Cameron Bray, MD of Bray Management, has invested plenty of time and effort into his communications and it has paid dividends, in terms of its residual impact. “Our company ethos is very much about the experience for our charter guests and owners”, Bray explains. “We try to establish why people want to own and charter superyachts, why they spend so much money, and it comes down to the experience. “Our newsletters aim to make a connection with the reader [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][based] on the experience and ‘what’s in it for them?’ Secondly, we want to build trust with the reader – we want them to feel comfortable doing business with us. “We try to achieve this by clean, well laid out newsletters, with great imagery and a small amount of knowledgeable, relevant content. People love photos, not lengthy newsletters. Our newsletters are our direct line to potential clients, so we put a lot of time and careful planning into developing them; we want our business to be telling a story.” Full story at SuperyachtNews.com. [/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

Our top five reasons to charter a superyacht

Signature Media came to us recently for our advice on the best break. Our advice? Get onboard an Australian charter superyacht vacation. 1. Less cost; varied experience If you’ve ever owned a yacht, thought about owning a yacht or spent time on one, one of the first things you would have picked up on is how much they cost to run. Capital outlay, maintenance, crew wages, insurance, fuel, toys, refit and repair are all day-to-day realities of yacht ownership. Take that annual cost of yacht ownership and put it into chartering a yacht, and you’re still ahead – while your stress levels stay low. This is your opportunity to experience the life of a superyacht owner, without the ongoing concerns of yacht ownership. It’s also a great way to change where you holiday and on which yacht. Experience the old-world elegance of sailing followed by an ultra-luxe thrill on board a motoryacht; there are no boundaries here. 2. It is the most exclusive service you will ever receive It is not uncommon to find superyachts with an excess of 40 crew servicing a guest list of only 12. While visions of being smothered by crew everywhere you turn may overwhelm, it is quite the opposite. The crew are there but seen only when needed. Each crewmember has a highly specialised role within the yacht. For example, well before you rise in the morning for breakfast or a stroll along a deserted beach, the crew have been busy at work. The chef will be baking croissants, while the deckhands chamois the rails to remove any trace of finger prints, cleaning down the tender and refuelling ready for the day’s activities. The stewardesses are laying the table ready for breakfast, and the captain and officers are plotting out your day’s voyage and itinerary. The crew are highly trained and very experienced; with a knack for knowing what it is you want, almost before you do. Fancy a relaxing dip in the ocean followed by a secluded picnic on the beach, or a day of activity and adventure with jet skis and water sports? The crew has thought of it and the equipment is ready to go. Sunset cocktails, a themed party, or simply winding down with a movie and popcorn, it’s all there. “Your gin and tonic, sir.” Read the full story at Signature Media

Bray Management Debuts Australian Superyacht Charters

In an increasingly complex legislative environment, Australia’s Bray Management is making sure charter yachts in local waters have a comprehensive support network. Launched by experienced manager, broker, and former captain, Cameron Bray, the company is quietly changing the way things are done in Australian waters. But word is getting out. “With the most significant changes to Australian marine legislation in the last 100 years currently being rolled out, it is imperative yacht owners, captains and crew are up-to-date with their obligations. By employing a dedicated management team, compliance and safety management is at the forefront of actions. The key element is minimizing risk to the owners. Widely practiced in the global superyacht industry, yacht management saves yacht owners time, money and risk,” says Bray. Having worked in the superyacht industry internationally for many years, the Bray Management team know that Australia’s marine environment is second to none and they want to see more Australians on the water enjoying it, and more visitors to the country experiencing it for themselves. This, combined with a desire to promote the high-end yachts based locally, has been the driving force behind the launch of Bray Management’s charter arm. Mobile around Australia’s coastlines, the Bray Management team brings a comprehensive style of management to the yachts in its care, and their Australian superyacht charter arm, and the results are paying dividends. Southern Cloud, the yacht currently cruising with her owners in the winter playground of the Whitsunday islands, is a great example. “The dedicated management has taken the day to day worry out of running their yacht. The operation now costs less to run, without effecting the owners’ experience, in fact, they tend to enjoy their yacht more, knowing their asset is in the best possible hands.” Bray was asked to manage the triple-masted yacht by experienced owners who have since reaped the benefits of spending less time on the details around the vessel, and more time enjoying her on the water. The Bray team takes an European approach to superyacht management; taking over the day-to-day running of the yacht, working closely with the crew for fiscal, operational and safety management. It’s an approach which has been proven overseas and one that often pays for itself, saving owners money overall, as well as time, and mitigating any stress associated with ownership. The Bray Management team focuses on protecting the yacht as an asset with close attention paid to code compliance, correct certification and manning requirements, whether they’re providing one-off services or bespoke management plans. With some of Australia’s favourite yachts in its charter stable and distinctive Southern Cloud working her way up Australia’s east coast for charter, Bray Management’s charter arm has well and truly arrived on the scene. The charter selection is extensive, with 40 meter schooner Southern Cloud, 37-metre Masteka II, Princess Iluka the first lady of the Whitsundays, 40-metre De Lisle III, yacht spotter favourites Ghost and Ghost II, among others, ensuring Bray Management has one of the most comprehensive (and sought after) charter selections in the region. It’s an impressive feat for the company which began less than two years ago, but one that’s a logical step for a team with extensive industry knowledge and the drive to see it make a difference to the way yachts are enjoyed in local waters.
